New Linbury Studio

LAMDA is a drama school situated in the west of London, United Kingdom. It is the oldest drama school in the UK; coming with a wealth of history and a reputation for developing young actors, actresses and dancers. In 2018, it announced its new President as the English actor Benedict Cumberbatch.

Price Building Consultancy was recommended to LAMDA to support their upcoming project in the Linbury Studio; a performance theatre that seats up to 80 people. The project included a full refurbishment of the theatre, with a new stage and seating area. We were also asked to build a brand new lift with disabled access.

The Project

The refurbishment included the full studio: the entrance, the changing rooms, the bathroom, a new lift and the studio stage with seating. The entrance was given a complete redecoration and new soft furnishings including curtains. In the studio, we provided 300m of new acoustic dance floor. The existing floor was hundreds of years old so required a complete removal and replacement. We recommended a specialist floor with resilient metal bars supported by shock absorbing rubber pads. The materials used provided sound and impact absorption whilst still providing flexibility for the school’s dancers.

The new lift required us to excavate a large enough area to fit the new machinery and we completed further Mechanical & Electrical work for the air conditioning, lighting and sound systems throughout the studio. As with all our projects, we chose sustainable suppliers and delivered fully on time and on budget – with a very happy clients in LAMDA and their Construction Consultancy, BAQUS.

“You did such a fantastic job. We’d be very happy to recommend you to anyone who asks!"
